New Year

I don’t make resolutions. Never have. I know myself well enough to know that I’m too flaky to keep them.

I decided this morning to collate all the projects I have ongoing into a healthier 2010 kind of a package, though. Not so much resolutions as positive changes I am trying to make. Some of these I’ve already begun, some I’m still working on getting started.

So here goes.

I want to be healthier. I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and have already altered a great deal of my eating habits to help this, though I’m working against genetics here so it’s tough. Toward that end, I’m going to exercise more regularly – and not just dancing. I have mornings to myself while my kids are in school, and I generally waste them twiddling my online thumbs. So I’m going to unplug more from my Internet habit (seriously, I nearly have my laptop surgically attached, it’s bad), and I’m going to get my butt up and moving every morning, either by buying a treadmill or going over to the community center that’s about a block away and using their fitness center. Associated health project is getting the kids (and me) to eat more vegetables, and for me to cook actual dinners more often, despite the futility of putting hours of my time into something they will take one bite of and tell me is yucky. I also want to start a garden this year, so we can have home-grown veggies and maybe some fruits. Will have to ask Khadijah’s help with that, as my flakiness generally manages to kill anything I plant within a matter of weeks.

On a related note, I don’t dance enough. I want to practice/rehearse every day. Even if it means I have to air-zil after the boys are in bed, although they’re pretty sound sleepers and might not wake up if I only wear one of my small pairs and shut their door. I have a belly dance certification program in February which should give me a lot of new material to work on, and that will help this along I think. Associated projects to this include doing yoga more regularly to help strength and flexibility, and practicing zils and doumbek.

I want to keep my house cleaner. I’m very lazy about housework. I don’t enjoy it, I’m completely apathetic toward it, and I let it go far too often since Husband has been working out of town. So I’m going to start taking time every day for basic maintenance. I also need to tackle a big project, which is cleaning out, re-arranging, and painting the den. Later this year I’ll tackle painting our bedroom and getting it in some semblance of working order again. It slides so fast. The kids’ room is in good shape, but needs to be repainted. Sometime this year we’re going to get rid of their toddler beds and put in bunkbeds. I am also hoping Husband will be home long enough at some point this year to do the home-improvement projects I want done around the house.

I have a few writing projects over at HPFF that I need to finish. I’m going to spend more time reading and reviewing there too, instead of just seeing stuff in the queue and bookmarking it but never reading it. Speaking of the queue, must do at least 20 validations every day. Associated to HPFF is the July trip to Infinitus and the Harry Potter theme park. Can’t wait for that. Seriously hoping that the StarKidPotter guys are going. Is it weird that I’d rather meet Darren Criss than the real Harry Potter actor? Hmm.

On a related writing note, once I’ve gotten my HPFF projects completed, I want to take some time to get back to original fiction. I need to do some major edits to my last NaNoWriMo novel, and I’d like to at least start on a new story. Maybe I’ll attempt JulNoWriMo this year.

I think that’s all. If I think of anything else, I’ll add it on later. But that’s my 2010 master plan.

  1. I’d love to read your NaNoWriMo effort and would be happy to help you with your edits.

For someone who doesn’t make resolutions…you’ve done a good job coming up with some resolutions. ;-)

I would so want to meet the StarKidPotter guys, too! Did you sign up for my coaching program on HM? I can help you stay motivated ;)

Uh, nope I didn’t, cause I looked over the questions and am not sure I’d be 100% committed. I’m very lazy, you know.

Qsie, I’ll have to brush the dust off it. I haven’t read it for a while, it was from 2008 NaNo (I did this year as a NaNo Rebel and worked on already-begun projects instead) so I’ll have to see how rusty it is. I usually edit and rewrite as I go, but of course didn’t for NaNo, so it was very very rough. I think only Lizzard has read the whole thing, although I did send a copy to Casey. I don’t know if she read it, she never said anything. It’s chick lit lol

You’ve got some great ideas to work on this year. Getting motivated, moving, and keeping up with the housework are very difficult for me as well.
