What happens in London

I’m feelin’ the Regencies lately. It was Julia Quinn’s “What Happens In London”, and I really enjoyed it. It was just, quite simply, delightful. Light, not a terrible amount of plot aside from the relationship, but frankly that’s fine by me. The characters were very engaging, all very endearing. The situations were always cute and funny, and the dialogue was very amusing, I laughed most of the way through it. It’s got an Austen-esque sort of feel. Nothing trashy about it, a rather refreshing lack of sex through most of it – the characters fall in love with each other first, rather than the lust and then the love which is typical of romances these days. It’s just really lovely. I’m starting another one by this author, and I’m going to look for more.

I did not like this one as much as The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever (same author). Probably because I read Miranda’s book first. They are both on my list of comfort reads when I want something quick, easy, and light-hearted.

I do like that one, too. I preferred Olivia’s story overall, but Miranda was very cute. I can’t wait to see Sebastian’s, that’ll be fun. I’m partway through another by the same author, her second one, and you can really see from reading the latest to this early one the difference in her writing ability. She’s gotten MUCH better. It’s all right, but it’s nowhere near as good as she is now.
