Overheard: Washington

Boys playing pretend tonight, Project Alpha being the daddy and Weapon X the doggy:

Alpha: You can’t go to Washington with me, doggy. You have to stay here.

X: There no dog food in Washington?

Alpha: I have to go to Washington. Good-bye.

Funnies today

Weapon X: “I don’t need you any more, Mama. Mail me to Nana.”

Me: “Okay. The post office opens on Monday, and I’ll mail you to Nana.”

X: *thinks* “I need you again, Mama. I don’t need D (brother). Mail D to Nana.”

And at bedtime…

Project Alpha: “I don’t need you, Mama, get out of my room.”

Conversation today

Weapon X: Mama, we can’t get in your car.

Me: That’s because I locked it. You don’t need to be playing around in my car.

Him: We not playing around, just reading a book.

Me: Uh-huh.

Him: Where your keys?

Me: Forget it, dude, I’m not giving you my keys.

Him: I need you keys, Mama.

Me: No. You’ll never find them!

Him: How bout I check in you pocket.

Me: *laughing* How about not. You don’t need to play in my car.

Him: We not playing, just reading a book.

Me: Yeah right. Go read a book somewhere else. Not in my car.

Him: Where you keys? I can’t find you keys.

Me: *sigh*

“Best friend”

Project Alpha tells me all the time now, “Mama, you’re my best friend.” Sometimes he says Weapon X is his best friend too, or Dada.

Weapon X was bugging me for a popsicle today (after he’d already had 4) and I told him no. He started begging “peese Mama” until I told him to stop bugging me, then he hid under the table and after a minute I heard, “Mama, yeh ou no?” lol. That’s what I say to them when they’re not paying attention and I ask a question – “Hey! Yes or no?” They’ve started saying that a lot now.

Their enunciation has not improved yet, but they’re talking so much now and in real sentences, even Weapon X. He said a 10-word sentence to me yesterday, his longest yet.

Dancin’ feet

Yesterday D did his little dance again, and I told him I liked his new dance. He said, “It’s not new, I did it yesterday.” He is so sarcastic. I have no idea where he gets that from. Ahem.

I’m so glad he’s decided he likes dancing. I’m looking at classes to put them in this summer since they won’t be doing a summer preschool – they’re now too old – and I want them to have some activities out of the house and with other kids. I haven’t put them in anything before now because of their speech delays, other kids treat them badly most of the time. I get nervous taking them to a play area or a park, because inevitably some kid asks “What’s wrong with him?” They used to say “Why doesn’t he talk?” but now both of the boys are speaking, they just are still very delayed for their age.

I wanted to put them in a Saturday morning soccer class this month, but there’s only one slot open. One of anything does me no good, as I always say, so I’m debating whether to go ahead and pay for that slot, then hold off until right before the class and try to bully a Parks & Rec person into letting the other twin in the class too. Otherwise they’ll have to do soccer in August, and I’ll have to try to find something else. I need to find something for June. Thinking about karate, gymnastics, maybe some kind of arts thing. I think karate would be good for helping develop their gross motor skills and their adaptive behavioral skills. Gymnastics too. An art class would help their fine motor skills. I want them to do some kind of sport this summer, but the possible Hawaii trip sometime in July is making that hard to find.

Anyway. Random thoughts again.
