I get earworms a lot. Music stuck in my head that won’t come out, lasting days or weeks. Usually it means that I listen to the song over and over to try to get it out of my head, and generally obsess over the music. Recently, as you may have noticed, it’s been Mon Amant de St-Jean. This has been overtaken now by the Very Potter Musical. I’ve been singing it around the house a lot, and seeing Half-Blood Prince Tuesday night kept making VPM references pop into my head (“My dad that’s dead, my father’s dead, I have a dead father.”). My kids are starting to request their favorites, usually Ginny’s Song. “Sing the guinea pig again!” and then they laugh and say “You want to bring me to Canada?”
Apparently a soundtrack is going to be available soon, so I can listen to the songs without playing the entire video on my iPod, which will be fun, although I love watching the whole thing over and over. And I’ll be singing along in the kitchen going “Haaaaaaaaaarry!” haha.
Amazingly hilarious production up on YouTube called A Very Potter Musical. I watched the entire thing this afternoon, laughing my head off. It’s so hilarious. Adore the guy who plays Harry, he’s cute and has a great voice. Their Ginny was far more annoying than I see her, but it was funny. Ron was great with his snacks. Hermione was funny too, and had a nice voice. Voldemort was hilarious and – once he was off Quirrell’s back – sexy as well.
My personal highlights:
Voldemort tap-dancing – and motorboating Bellatrix
Drunk Voldemort
The Death Eater chorus line
Harry talking about how awesome he is
Ron’s giant chocolate bar
The Ron/Hermione kiss, if you can call it that
Draco rolling around randomly on the floor
Goyle’s voice, and the Indian Burn Hex
Dumbledore’s twanging accent
Voldy and Quirrell’s bromance
Texan Cho Chang
Cedric “find” Diggory
Molly Weasley’s brief and extremely New Jersey appearance
The music was excellent. Sound quality’s not great, I had a hard time hearing some dialogue while music was painfully loud. I wish I had this on DVD, I would watch it far too often.

So, I want to podcast. I love music, especially belly dance music. I’d love to do like a radio show of great tribal and obscure music. I looked into legalities a bit and I would need a license, naturally, and I’m not sure I want to do it that much. I’m quite lazy, in sterotypical Piscean fashion.
The other thing I’d like to podcast is about Harry Potter fanfiction. I’m a staff member at HPFF and some of what I run across in the queue is really excellent. So I’m thinking about highlighting a best-of maybe every week, or twice a month, don’t know. I think I’ll work on making some lists here first, while I think about this some more.
It could be fun.
I’d also like to try to get GotTwinz to do a staff podcast. Maybe once a month since we’re so disorganized haha (with two Pisces on the admin team, it’s not a big shock). Must remember to bring it up in the mod room.
90 days! It seemed to take forever, 276 days, 186 days, now suddenly it’s only 90. Still a ways off but now it seems reachable.
Even though I’m a stickler for canon, and the movies always diverge from the books in ways that annoy me, I still can’t wait to see this movie.
Thus far the trailers have been pretty good. This one does not disappoint either. Yes, Michael Gambon continues to suck as Dumbledore, the Inferi look like Gollum, and it appears Emma is still acting primarily with her eyebrows, however, there’s plenty of new stuff (Ginny! Did you actually get a line?!), Quidditch, cool magic effects, and Weasleytasticness, and angry!Hermione to make a fangirl squee. The Katie Bell scene looks simply gorgeous, and Harry v. Malfoy Bathroom Duel also looks pretty kickass. And my homegirl twinmom Molly actually appears, if only for a moment.
But I still haven’t forgiven you, WB, for pushing the movie back in the name of getting more ticket money. All you did was piss off the fans and make us expect a lot more out of the movie than we otherwise would have.
Still, I’ll be at the first showing when it opens.
