The Best

Tonight, I made the usual rounds of the house before going to bed myself. Doors locked. Windows locked. Heat set for the drop to low 50s expected tonight. Ice packs in freezer for kids’ lunches tomorrow. And then checked on the boys to make sure they were tucked in nicely. Added blanket to C. I climbed to the top bunk to check on D and saw he’d gotten a plastic lei and put it on before falling asleep. Visions of strangling hazards; removed the lei and tucked his blanket back over him. He rolled over in his sleep and mumbled, without opening his eyes, “You’re the best, Mommy.”

Just one of those simple moments that winds up making you feel so happy with your life. Now to go throw that lei in the trash so he doesn’t do it again.

The Statue of Liberty

Twin B is into the Statue of Liberty right now for some reason. He’s asked me a couple of times now if we can go see it. I keep telling him it’s too far away for just popping on up there, but he doesn’t see why he can’t ditch school and go to New York on a Tuesday afternoon. I think later this year I’ll try to take them up there to see it. A weekend jaunt to New York City might be fun at the end of the summer or something. We went to Red Robin for lunch yesterday, and they have a Statue of Liberty in the lobby, so of course Twin B wanted his picture in front of it.

I finally got the camera to work, after not having a point-and-shoot for months. I still don’t like this camera, and long for the one the kids broke (it took such great pictures. This one does not), but at least it’s something small enough to fit in my purse easily. When I looked at the SD card though, there were a bunch of photos I hadn’t uploaded from back in October. So I’ll post some of those as well, and some more recent ones.

Mom’s Quilt

This is the wall quilt I made for my mom for Christmas. Took fabric paint and used my kids’ handprints to make sea creatures (two fish, a crab, and a squid, although I’m not sure I like how the squid turned out, but the boys loved it). Here are the photos from nearly-start to finish. I started snapping pics once I’d already gotten the top assembled, but there you go.

Look at the time!

My mom sent Star Wars Lego watches to the boys, and they have been just nuts over them. C kept coming up to me today and sticking the watch in my face, saying “Oh dear, look at the time!” At bedtime, D checked his watch and said “Oh my God, look at the time!” I don’t know where they get this stuff.
